HIMAA Board is made up of eight Directors who oversee the policy and business decisions of the Health Information Management Association of Australia.

Vicki Bennett - President



Vicki has a diverse background in both public and private hospitals, city and rural settings in Australia. She has also undertaken a number of consultancies in the Pacific, including Vanuatu, Tonga, and Nauru, and worked for the Ministry of Health in Fiji for a number of years.

Vicki has a degree in Health Information Management, and a Masters in Health Informatics and is the current President of the Health Information Management Association of Australia. She has worked as an educator for The University of Sydney and for The University of Queensland where she was the Technical Director of the Health Information Systems Knowledge Hub in the School of Population Health.

Vicki has worked for the Australian Government as the Manager of the Information Strategy Section at Medicare Australia, and at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, where she was the Head of the Health Care Safety and Quality Unit and is now undertaking a project related to the Coding Workforce in Australia.

 
Sallyanne Wissmann - Senior Vice President



 


Sallyanne graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Business (Health Information Management) from Queensland University of Technology.

Sallyanne is currently the Director, Health Information Service at Mater Health Services Brisbane, a large not-for-profit healthcare provider, providing public and private children's, mothers' and adult services. Sallyanne has been at the Mater since 2004.

In 2007, Sallyanne participated in the inaugural Mater Leadership Program of 15 participants and in 2008, had the opportunity to participate in a Mercy Leadership Pilgrimage to Dublin to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the beginnings, history and mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

Previously, Sallyanne worked at Auckland District Health Board for 8 years in HIM and coding management roles. While in New Zealand, Sallyanne managed the NZ Clinical Coder education course and contributed to the establishment of the NZ Coding Authority.

Sallyanne joined the HIMAA board in October 2009.

 Kerryn Butler – Henderson - Junior Vice President



 

 


Kerryn graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science (Health Information Management) from Curtin University of Technology. 

Kerryn has worked mainly in clinical research positions since her graduation, including coordinating the PET/Cyclotron Service research office for Western Australia. Kerryn is now a lecturer in Health Information Management and course contact for the postgraduate Health Informatics program at Curtin University of Technology. 

Kerryn has been an active member of HIMAA for many years, sitting as an executive member of the WA Branch in positions including Secretary, President and, until recently, Vice-President.
 
Catherine Garvey - Treasurer


Catherine came to Australia in 1988 having started her career and studies in health administration in Ireland and the United Kingdom prior to studying her Diploma in Health Administration at the University of South Australia. During her twenty-two years working in health, Catherine has been employed by both private and public sector hospitals in mental health, country and many metropolitan acute settings, and had worked for State Records, South Australia, undertaken work in corporate record management. Training and assessment certified, Catherine has provided medical terminology training and education for both HIMAA and privately. Catherine achieved her Bachelor of Science (Health Information Management) by correspondence and graduated as the first student to complete the Curtin University distance education programme in 2001.

Catherine is currently undertaking her Masters in Business Administration. As the current President of the South Australian Branch of the Health Information Management Association of Australia, Catherine has also recently undertaken the casual directorship for HIMAA. Currently engaged on secondment to the South Australian Department of Health as the Acting Chief Health Information Manager, her substantive role is that of Manager, Patient Information and Administrative Services at the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

Jenny  Gilder - Member



Jenny Gilder has 40 years experience has a HIM in public and private hospitals as well as a period outside of health spent in local government as a Director of Community Services.

Jenny's professional experience includes the management of medical record/clinical/coding/clinical information departments and their preparation for ACHS accreditation. Since mid 2009 Jenny has operated a consultancy providing HIM services, including coding and other audits to a variety of health care service clients.

Jenny also undertakes contract clinical coding for a large clinical coding company.

 
Janine Carter - Member


Janine graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) from LaTrobe University, Melbourne. Janine is currently the Manager, Patient and Client Systems at the Grampians Rural Health Alliance in Victoria. The Alliance provides strategic direction and support for infrastructure and applications across 12 health services in the Grampians region. Since graduating from LaTrobe, Janine has completed a Graduate Diploma in Administration, Diploma in Project Management and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to consolidate and extend the skills gained as a HIM undergraduate.

Previously, Janine worked at Ballarat Health Services for twelve years as Manager of Health Information Services followed by various project management and application support and development roles at Ballarat and in the Grampians region. Janine has also been involved in the Victorian branch of HIMAA, including Executive and Education Committee roles and was the Victorian representative member on the HIMAA Journal Editorial Board until 2009. Janine joined the HIMAA board in October 2010.

 

 
Travis Ingram - Member




Travis was awarded a degree in Health Information Management from Curtin University of Technology (WA) in 1998. He later commenced study in Victoria in a Masters of Information Systems but a move back to Perth in 2005 instead saw him awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Information Systems from Swinburne University.

Travis has had a diverse career working as a HIM in the rural setting and metropolitan teaching hospitals in both Victoria and Western Australia. He made a move into an information technology role within a large diagnostic imaging division in 2005 and is currently working as a business analyst with the eHealthWA program, which is part of the WA statewide Information Technology group known as the Health Information Network.
